If by chance you have ignored wireless charging, you will no longer be able to do so. It will be the most used battery charger for our mobile phones and laptops. I‘m going to explain to you why and how this technology will work in the future.
When the battery runs out it is unnerving. Unfortunately, our devices are hungry for electricity. The more powerful they are and the larger the displays, the more often they need to be recharged.
The solution is not to build them with larger batteries, but to have wireless chargers close at hand, which can recharge your cell phone while you use it.
Although we have seen this technology take off, the basis for its operation was discovered shortly after we started using electricity.
In the late 19th century, engineer Nikola Tesla showed that two powerful magnetic fields can transfer some energy between their sources when they interfere with each other.
This practical application was found almost 100 years later!
IT DEPENDS ON THE ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD
Electricity and magnetism.
“What you need to know is that any object with the power of energy potentially also has a magnetic field.”
For example, a light bulb shines but you cannot sell the magnetic field it gives off: that light bulb only exists because the current flows through the wiring, hence the magnetic field.
Magnetism and electricity are two sides of the same coin. When there is electricity it flows through the magnetic field.
The more wire there is, the stronger the magnetic field. In fact, to produce a strong magnetic field takes a lot of copper.
Copper also protects electrical technology from excessive electromagnetic waves such as radio frequencies. It is corrosion-resistant and reduces deterioration. It is durable and is the best conductor of energy there is.
But, wireless charging technology hasn’t changed much since Tesla’s discovery. He is the one who realized its double potential. But no one could find an appropriate use.
Most mobile devices today have an electromagnetic coil attached to their hardware.
A very similar and more powerful coil is inside the charger. With electricity, the coil becomes a source of the electromagnetic field.
When the latter encounters the coil located in the telephone, they interact with each other. As if they were two brothers, one older and the other younger. And the larger field supplies electricity to the smaller one.
Here’s how wireless charging works, using the same principle the phone or laptop can charge even if they are not connected.
HOW WIRELESS CHARGERS ARE MADE
To date, the challenge for engineers is to make the chargers super-efficient. That is, make them so they can exchange electricity as if there were a cable connected. Maybe even to do it remotely.
Let me explain:
At the moment the energy and the electromagnetic field do not pass from one side to the other with efficiency. I must admit that the classic battery charger with the wire is even faster than an electromagnetic field.

For example, wireless devices are made like mats. So that you can keep the phone on it because there is a need for contact.
I must say they are well built and blend in with the many objects that a person can have on their desk.
There is no breaking of a battery charger cable box. They are not large or bulky.
You can put your phone off and on the charge in a snap if you need to make a phone call.
In short, they are very convenient but still far from mass production. At the moment they are not as fast as charging with the cable. It’s called wireless but it’s really not because the smartphone must be in contact.
THE SAFETY OF WIRELESS CHARGING.
Every new and unknown technology has its skeptics. Even with our wireless charger, some believe it can be harmful to your health.
“ You should know that as a short-range electromagnetic field it cannot be harmful to you or your children”.
Each device goes through numerous tests before being sold to the public.
Your smartphone, on the other hand, may have a health benefit. Without cables, the possibility of harmful electric shocks is eliminated.
It is a technology invented about 1 century ago yet still has some flaws.
Futurologists (who study the potential of the future) explain that sooner or later we will forget about cables.
And this change can already be seen as it is approaching: there are some companies that have started producing furniture with integrated wireless chargers.
It might be odd to have a table connected with a cable. Instead, it will be convenient to recharge the smartphone simply by placing it somewhere.
There are also queue-free headphones that are becoming popular. Even laptops without power cables and more, are coming down the line, that can charge the electric car on the go.
Meanwhile, new charger prototypes are emerging that work within 4 or 5 meters of the device and provide more energy than two devices together.
It is not entirely different from the one just described. However, it may be the most effective answer to remote charging.
It uses electromagnetic waves but on a particular frequency. The charger and receiver are on the same frequency giving better results.
In this way, the transmitted energy is not lost but concentrated only on the smartphone.
Resonant charging will be good for our devices, especially those that have a high energy consumption like cars and robots.
It will work within a 4.5-meter radius by feeding a lot of power. It is safe to use because it has no negative effects on devices and people.
Finally, I want to tell you about one last alternative that is still under study. It could be extremely powerful and localized.
It is laser charging, which still has many problems to solve. For example, the laser works over any distance but needs a direct path to the device.
If this path is interrupted, the recharge will not work at all. So it is a technology not yet adopted. But it could have an incredible yield compared to the others.
Scientists are working on it, in the next few years, it could be a major advancement.
A bit like electric cars today. We have been hearing about this technology for some time but we had to give the researchers time to make it efficient and functional.
IT COULD BE POSSIBLE TO CHARGE A PHONE WITH SOUNDS
Infrared and infrasound waves are also being studied.
The results are quite surprising. It seems it is possible to recharge the phone with sound, such as background noise or the sound of your own voice.
