We all struggle to choose a career at some point in our lives because many of us have various interests. And once we’ve decided on a career path, our previous interests fade into obscurity. There is someone, though, who has chosen multiple careers and succeeded in each one.

Meet Jared Isaacman, entrepreneur, astronaut, pilot, and philanthropist. Exciting! Isn’t it? And guess what? Jared is a high school dropout, who not only followed all of his passions but did them at a very young age.

Jared Isaacman

Meet Jared Isaacman, philanthropist, entrepreneur, astronaut, and pilot. Exciting! Isn’t that right? Guess what else? Jared is a high school dropout who not only pursued all of his interests but did so at a young age. His net worth is estimated to be US$1.5 billion as of September 2022.

Jared Isaacman amassed the majority of his billionaire fortune through Shift4, a payments processor that he founded in 1999 and is now listed on the New York Stock Exchange. He also founded Draken International, an aviation company, in 2011, and later sold a majority stake to Blackstone Group in 2019.

Jared also served as the pilot of Inspiration4, a personal space mission that took off from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center on September 16, 2021, and used SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Resilience.

After orbiting at a height of 585 km (364 mi), the crew descended to Earth on September 18, 2021. The mission was part of a fundraising effort for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to which Isaacman has pledged a $100 million donation.

Here’s Jared Isaacman‘s story and how he became so successful!

JARED ISAACMAN STARTED HIS FIRST BUSINESS AT THE AGE OF FOURTEEN

Jared has craved adventure since he was a child. He was the youngest of his three siblings and aspired to live the same life they did when he lived with his parents. He was still in high school when his older brother, Michael, purchased his first home.

The two eldest siblings of Jared, Tiffany, and Marc, were both employed at the time and were each 27 or 30 years old. Jared’s dream came true when he started his own business as a freshman at Ridge High School in Bernards Township, New Jersey, while still in ninth grade.

Jared found that he and Brendan Lauber, his best friend, shared the same aptitude for computer repair. They got along, and in the basement of Jared’s parents, they founded Deco Systems. He began his career as an IT professional and repairman when he was 14 years old.

Two years later, he received a full-time job offer from one of his clients, Merchant Services Inc. (MSI), a nearby New Providence, New Jersey-based payment processor. He decided to forgo finishing high school to accept the position, obtaining a GED in the process.

As an internal consultant, Jarred started working for MSI.

JARED ISAACMAN FOUNDED SHIFT4 AT THE AGE OF SIXTEEN

Jared was naturally inquisitive, and he quickly picked up on the system’s flaws.

MSI’s main line of business was the sale of bulky terminals used to swipe magnetic-stripe credit cards. Banks provided credit cards to customers and expected small businesses to accept them on their own, outsourcing the task to companies like MSI.

Jared could see how time-consuming and expensive the procedure was even from his vantage point in the IT division.

A neighborhood pizza joint would need to fill out a tonne of paperwork and pay a tonne of fees before it could begin accepting credit cards, which would take two weeks.

After working at MSI for six months, he believed he could streamline the procedure and make it more affordable. So he quit his job and founded United Bank Card, the forerunner of Shift4, in his parents’ basement. Don, his father, was his first hire.

Soon after, Don left his sales position to become vice president of a home security company. Using his MSI connections and a $10,000 loan from his grandfather, Jared persuaded a bank to give him an identification number, which he required to sell the credit-card terminals.

The following person he hired was Lauber from Decho who had left the Rochester Institute of Technology to work for the new company.

During the early internet boom, they were able to develop web applications that made terminal and card acceptance easier. Don used his sales skills to persuade nearby businesses to support the fledgling organization, which was being led by a youngster who was 16 years old.

He was still too young to drink by 2003, but he had earned enough money to repay his grandfather’s loan and branch out past the Garden State. The four-year-old startup, which has attracted thousands of new customers, has opened an office in Arizona.

The company’s next big breakthrough came in 2008 when Harbortouch was released. At the time, Harbortouch was a high-tech touchscreen that merged a cash register and a credit card terminal into one unit.

This was long before Square, and there were few competitors, so it was far more successful.

He was the company’s first CEO and continued in that position in 2015, when the business had been profitable for more than ten years and processed US$11 billion annually from 60,000 merchants, bringing in US$300 million in revenue.

By 2020, Isaacman was still serving as CEO, the business had changed its name to Shift4 Payments, and it was handling US$200 billion in payments every year.

JARED ISAACMAN IS A PILOT AND AVIATION ENTHUSIAST TOO

Jared could have become a dull boy from too much work, but aviation saved him. Isaacman began to experience burnout from the years of work accumulating because he started working so early.

Jared, who is ambitious, quickly transitioned from flying prop planes to flying jets by logging hundreds of flight hours. Jared’s journey, in my opinion, demonstrates that he is a high achiever who goes for the kill.

The 26-year-old Aquarian achieved the fastest flight around the world in only his second attempt. He failed the first one due to a delay caused by Indian officials in 2008. He sailed from and to Morristown, New Jersey, in 61 hours and 51 minutes, via the Azores and Alaska.

In addition to being a great asset to him, Isaacman’s love of flying enabled him to contribute $100,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Jared is the type of person who pursues his passions rather than his hobbies.

The desire to pilot fighter jets came as a result of his passion, which inspired him to set higher goals. He earned a bachelor’s degree in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2011.

JARED ISAACMAN AND HIS NEXT VENTURE DRAKEN INTERNATIONAL

In 2010, Isaacman met Sean Gustafson, a member of the famous Air Force stunt squadron the Thunderbirds.

Together, they founded the Black Diamond Jet Team, an air show squadron that performs aerial acrobatics at major events like the Indy 500 and NFL games, with the assistance of other retired pilots.

The two had an even better idea a year later. The American military was in a mode of cost-cutting after the financial crisis.

The military was investing billions of dollars to train pilots in war games against fictitious opponents at Nellis Air Force Base. It was becoming impossible to continue pulling F-16s and seasoned pilots from battle to train at home.

The two air show friends recognized an opportunity: if they could convince the Air Force to export that training to them using former military aircraft from foreign allies that cost much less to operate, manned by retired airmen, not on the military payroll.

It would save billions of dollars and allow the Air Force’s best pilots to fight overseas instead of training recruits in the Nevada desert. They founded Draken International with the majority of the air-show team on board to make that plan a reality.

It took some time, but Jared eventually succeeded in getting Draken his biggest deal yet: a $280 million contract for five years of Air Force pilot training at Nellis.

Jared Isaacman

JARED ISAACMAN TOOK SPACE FLIGHTS AS WELL

Isaacman revealed in February 2021 that he would be Inspiration4’s commander. Inspiration4 will be the first private human spaceflight without any members of the armed forces. the mission was carried out by SpaceX on a Crew Dragon spacecraft that was launched by a Falcon 9 rocket.

During flight training, Isaacman was given the call sign “Rook.” In August 2021, he and the other members of the Inspiration4 crew are photographed for the cover of a double issue of Time magazine. On September 15, 2021, Inspiration4 was launched, reached orbit, and splashed down three days later.

While over Las Vegas during the Inspiration4 mission, Isaacman placed the first-ever known sports wager from space, placing two wagers on NFL football with the BetMGM Sportsbook. The upcoming Polaris Dawn mission, which is anticipated to launch no earlier than March 2023, will feature Isaacman’s return to space.

TAKE AWAY FROM JARED ISAACMAN’S STORY

Jared is an undeniably brilliant man who also happens to be a billionaire. Still, h He works 16-hour days. If someone with such brilliance works 16 hours per day, that means hard work is required. Therefore, there is no simple road to success. There is no shortcut; you must put in the effort.

Another point to consider today is to follow your passion. Jared had craved an adrenaline rush since he was a child. In numerous interviews, he has stated that his passion is what drives him. So pick something that you are passionate about. It would help you go with your startup.

Finally, success knows no bounds. A single successful venture does not imply that you will stop working on it. You have as much freedom to act as you please, just like Jared Isaaman.
